Extremely useful information for everyone who enjoys camping!
Application of cell batteries in expeditions and camping trips.
Hermetic alkaline accumulators have become the most popular means as power suppliers of portable devices for more than half a century. Their technical characteristics improve constantly but today there is still an issue with accumulators, even advanced accumulators have limited capacity. I would like to share information from my own experience. I am engaged in speleology and the specificity of this engagement is that you constantly depend on lighting devices consuming electric power, and, hence, batteries or accumulators. For years this circumstance was the biggest problem in my wanderings on labyrinths of caves. In long expeditions it was necessary to take a large supply of accumulators that made backpacks much heavier, sometimes forcing to refuse from necessary things. But thanks to improvement of modern electronic schemes which have become less power-intensive I started to use a solar battery. I need to note an important circumstance: the prices for solar batteries have fallen considerably in comparison with the 70’s and 80’s! Moreover, they continue to decrease and the use of solar batteries becomes rather perspective. Applying solar batteries you can refuse from the use of big mine batteries, replacing them with their accumulators of the format АА.
If you plan to go on a camping trip or expedition for a couple of days, you can take 30 accumulators which will give power to all necessary equipment: GPS, radio stations, a lantern, flashlight, the receiver (you will need several sets for each device). If you combine small accumulators to the solar battery, constantly recharging them, you will not feel lack of energy carriers, weight of your backpack will decrease as well. Accumulators with solar batteries, a converter, a tester, and a box for accumulators weigh 1,5 kg (for comparison: it is the weight of one grump light with the capacity 36 watt/hour only). Thanks to the solar battery your power supply will have the capacity more than 65 watt/hour. For people engaged in cycling or boating it is an optimum variant to solve problems with power supply and extra kilograms.
Some people think that the use of solar batteries is strongly limited. Their main argument is that in order to use the solar battery it is necessary to have a constant place of basing (parking or camp) in a camping trip or expedition. But today the industry produces accumulators which become charged in three hours. During short letups or a halt for a dinner such accumulators can be charged completely. It is possible to recharge accumulators from the solar battery during a trek to the basing place. You can place the battery on the top of your backpack but don’t forget that in the wood the danger for your battery is represented by branches of trees and bushes. On open district this method is quite comprehensible. Some people consider that the main minus of application of a solar battery is its dependence on the Sun. According to certain control measurements charging of accumulators can be accomplished regularly: during bright sunny days, cloudy days, when it rains, in the forest during sunny days, in the shade of trees. Usually cloudy days are combined with sunny days. Thus, the charge is certainly not always so effective as it would be during sunny days but it is enough for uninterrupted charging of all devices mentioned forth above.
Every day people become more and more dependable on any energy sources. Appearance of new portable devices forces us to use various kinds and models of accumulators. It is already impossible to imagine the modern world without electricity and devices which accumulate it. Consequently in order to keep up to date to it is necessary to look for new nonconventional methods of power supply for devices. At least our active outside leisure will became more comfortable.

Pandora (Avatar) could be found in the space.
Although life-bearing moons like Pandora or the Star Wars forest moon of Endor are staples of science fiction, astronomers have yet to discover any moons beyond our solar system. However, they could be science fact, and researchers might soon not only be able to spot them, but also scan their atmospheres for key signs of life as we know it, such as oxygen and water.
"If Pandora existed, we potentially could detect it and study its atmosphere in the next decade," said astrophysicist Lisa Kaltenegger of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass.

Funny stuff in the space.
Astronauts need a break from their busy schedules when they are orbiting Earth. Days or even months of straight work is certain to cause stress among space workers. That is why flight planners on Earth schedule time during each day so astronauts can relax, exercise and have some fun. Shuttle and station crewmembers even manage to have fun while working. Experiments in space sometimes involve ordinary toys and how microgravity affects them.
A popular pastime while orbiting the Earth is simply looking out the window. Astronauts onboard the space shuttle can look out the cockpit windows and watch the Earth below or the deep blackness of space. Inside the International Space Station, crewmembers have numerous windows they can look out. Astronauts often comment on their fascination and awe as they look at the Earth spin beneath them with its multiple shades and textures. Sunsets and sunrises are also very spectacular, occurring every 45 minutes above the Earth's atmosphere.
Onboard the space station, crewmembers have many opportunities to relax and play. Like most people who work full time, they get weekends off. On any given day, crewmembers can watch movies, read books, play cards and talk to their families. They have an exercise bike, a treadmill and various other equipment to help keep their bodies in shape. During their off time, they certainly take time out to play games and generally have a good time.

Oxford Word of the Year 2009: Unfriend
Without further ado, the 2009 Word of the Year is: unfriend.
unfriend – verb – To remove someone as a ‘friend’ on a social networking site such as Facebook.
As in, “I decided to unfriend my roommate on Facebook after we had a fight.”
“It has both currency and potential longevity,” notes Christine Lindberg, Senior Lexicographer for Oxford’s US dictionary program. “In the online social networking context, its meaning is understood, so its adoption as a modern verb form makes this an interesting choice for Word of the Year. Most “un-” prefixed words are adjectives (unacceptable, unpleasant), and there are certainly some familiar “un-” verbs (uncap, unpack), but “unfriend” is different from the norm. It assumes a verb sense of “friend” that is really not used (at least not since maybe the 17th century!). Unfriend has real lex-appeal.”

Where in the world are the most profitable companies and exactly how much money are they raking in?
In 2008, the most profitable public company on the planet made enough profits to give every American citizen $146.81. Those same profits could have bought each child on the planet $45 worth of holiday gifts. However, that didn’t happen and for most of the top companies, profits in 2009 will not come anywhere close to that level.

5 facts you should know about Coco Chanel. Who is Your style icon?
Coco Channel is a revolutionary figure of her time. Her persona remains a powerful force in the world of style and fashion to this day. Coco is a pioneer in fashion. She believed in “expensive simplicity”, simple yet expensive designs. She has been acknowledged one of the most influential people of the 20th century.
1. Little black dress was designed by Coco Channel in 1920s. Today millions of women have such a dress in their wardrobes. Fashion observers believe it a “rule of fashion” that every woman must own a simple, elegant black dress. Edith Piaf wore a sheath dress throughout her career. Critics considered that the dress focused audience more on her singing not on appearance. “A fashion that does not reach the streets is not a fashion. You cannot have fashion out of touch with street life” (Channel)
2. She adored pockets! Coco Chanel was extremely enchanted with pockets. Pockets were the main focus of her designs in women handbags! Enchanting designs make them versatile for different women. Chanel
3. It was just a hobby. Before Coco became a fashion legend, she used to work as a clerk in a small hosiery shop. Sometimes legends start from humble beginnings to grandeur! Chanel started her career by designing hats.
Later it became a deeper interest. Hats were innovative and fancy and soon became a hit among aristocracy in Paris.
5. Do you know that she has started the Sun tan!? Sun tanning didn’t become fashionable by accident. In 1923 when Coco was on a cruise she got burnt by sun rays. Coco managed to make it seem fashionable – a brilliant example that it is all in the attitude! “Success is made with what can’t be learned”(Channel).
Hotel Ritz in Paris was her home for more than 30 years. German officer Dincklage (her lover) made arrangements for her to stay in the hotel. She met many famous celebrities Salvador Dali, Picasso, Romy Schneider, Churchill, Stravinsky, Jean Cocteau, Paul Morand, the Duke of Westminster, André Malraux, Erik Satie and etc. She lived always free and often alone, like all remarkable individuals.
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” (Coco Chanel)
